used the book last week. Garage door opener quit, couldn't get door open or cars out. Google search yielded a bunch of national chains. I wanted a local company. After 15 minutes of clicking around went to the print yellow pages book and very first ad was for a local company that worked on my brand opener, had a BBB rating, didn't charge extra for weekend services and had a local number. Problem resolved.

The internet is wonderful for browsing, but not for local buying decisions, at least not yet

Amoureuse, I won't ask how long ago 10th grade was...but I am one who would rather opt out of receiving those books. That photo is actually the books that were left on my porch just this year! I don't want them and yes, I did recycle. What a waste of energy to leave on my doorstep!

Tom, You are correct, there are something I can see would be easier to find in the Yellow Pages. I.E. the roofer comes to you so the price is probably more important that the proximity to the job.

I do believe the younger generation is not at all familiar with Yellow Pages as they are so accustomed to Googling things. I know my kids are!

Not sure that those of us who read blogs are what would be considered representative of the whole population, but I guess we do represent the part of the population who uses phone books less. OTOH, when I needed a roofer fairly recently I found that I couldn't easily compare ads for different ones easily online and the book was way easier, even though there are plenty of things I look up online.

Nowdays those huge books are just waste of money and space ! Everything you need , you can find in Google, so that books should be recycled :)
