Hire Your Professional Bio

Wasting time trying to write.Writing about yourself

If you are like me, you find writing about yourself very difficult. Perhaps it’s because we were trained not to “brag” or to “be seen and not heard.” Either way writing about yourself is a special challenge.

The importance of a good first impression

As consumers are searching for us on the Internet we need to present a clear, well-written picture of who we are and what we do. That’s why I made an effort to seek out a professional copywriter to craft my professional bios. I had her write two, one for my “About Me” pages on websites and another for my LinkedIn profile. Each are distinctly different and of equal importance for enhancing my online presence.

Why Two Different Bios?

They are written two different distinct styles, the “About Me Bio” is perfect for your website, your Google profile and any other location you need to post a compelling “About Me” story.

The second is specifically crafted for the LinkedIn Summary Page. It lists core competencies, accomplishments and future plans, all using keywords to attract relevant traffic to your profile. Since I posted my professionally written bio on LinkedIn my search traffic has increased. I am amazed at how much it has enhanced my online presence. Frankly, I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner.

Dipity is Cool

Dipity is a way to combine your visits and comments across the vast social ocean we call the Internet. It’s basic service is free, but there is an upgraded paid version if you really want to get fancy.

I found it while surfing via Jennifer Rathbun’s site. I liked what she did on her Personal bio website where I noticed her very cool time line, Dipity.

Following that link I had a timeline of my own in about 2 minutes! All that was necessary was to add the RSS Feed URL from 3 of my blogs, my Denver Real Estate Blog, my Denver Photo Blog and this semi-wannabe geek blog. Then I added my Twitter and Flickr username and that’s it. Two minutes flat!

Give it a try, once done you can grab the code and embed it on your own personal blog, like this.

It’s really great for people like me who can’t remember what they did yesterday and the day before…

Thanks for the tip Jenn! And folks, if your aren’t following Jennifer and her hubby Matthew, you should. They tend to be the voices of reason in real estate. Matt is a trainer in Virginia who often delivers important news to me all the way out here in the west!

Disclaimer: If you are playing and posting instead of working maybe you should reconsider. Yes, your boss might see this! Need I say DUH?

Confessions of an iPhone Junkie

iphoneI admit I’m addicted.  It is bad, really bad when you can’t imagine life without an iPhone.

Apple’s got me.  I’m not only an advocate I’m a crazy app downloading, texting, photo taking zealot.  I Facebook on my iPhone.  I even Twitter.

Lord knows the world could care less what I am doing every minute of the day, but I certainly do try hard to keep them updated!

My iPhone also is responsible for making new friends.  We share a commonality (addiction) in our love for the iPhone and all things that make it so sweet.

In fact this week I’ve found a couple very cool apps.  All silliness aside this app will make any bargain hunter a believer.

It’s called Red Laser.  Once downloaded to your iPhone you can hold this app over the bar code (you know that label with the lines) and the iPhone will return to you a selection of places you can purchase that product and the prices.

Oh my!  This little app is the answer to many a bargain hunter’s dream.  It’s free too.

From my iPhone I can also do mundate tasks like real estate.  I can log onto my local MLS, post to my WordPress blogs and visit my social networking sites.

Of course all these have those pesky passwords.  Half the time I can’t remember my passwords, so I have downloaded the RoboForm app.  If you don’t use RoboForm to remember your passwords you are probably wasting too much time requesting password replacements, or you living on the edge of danger using the same password for everything.

Check out Robo Form and you will be delighted with what it can do for you.  Now with my FREE Robo Form app, all my passwords are stored for easy access on my iPhone.  With one click RoboForm will fill out my passwords and deliver my browser to the inside of a protected site.  All I have to do is remember the one Master password.

How cool is that?

Amazon also offers the Kindle app.  For all you book readers out there who have been dying for the $259 Kindle, you will absolutely love this.

There is a FREE Kindle app for the iPhone!  Yes, I said free.  Once you have the Kindle app on the phone you can shop at Amazon and have your books delivered right to your Kindle app.

At first I thought the iPhone would be difficult to read on, but then I learned how to enlarge the type.  I can also read it in landscape or portrait mode which makes it much easier to read.

I love the fact I can carry a whole library of reference material in one handy little device.

Yes, the iPhone is awesome.  For me it is as necessary as air.

In the Beginning You Need…

Watching my hubby and my agents try to logon to a website is painful.  They scratch their heads, twist in the chair, moan, clinch fists and sometimes exclaim a small profanity or two!

I want to grab the keyboard away from them and do it myself! Why all this agony?

Passwords.

Nobody can remember their passwords.  How can this be so hard? After all how many passwords can a person have? Let’s see there’s email, mls, blogsite, website, Active Rain, Facebook, your bank, your investment accounts, Paypal and at least 40 or 50 more?

Well you say you only have a few?  Guess you just got your computer yesterday.

OK, I’ve made my point. I don’t mean to  feel superior, I can seldom remember my passwords, because I don’t have too. No, I don’t use the insecure password saver in I.E. or Firefox, but I do have a life saver.

It’s RoboForm.

The RoboForm logo says it “Remembers Passwords So You Don’t Have To.”  I say, “Thank Goodness!”

The best part of RoboForm is it navigates directly to the site you want, logs you in and BAM you can go to work!  You don’t even have to remember the URL, RoboForm does that for you!

Oh, that’s not all.  Do you ever get tired of filling out online forms? Well RoboForm can do that for you.  I have two different identities, 1) personal 2) professional.  If I am online purchasing a product or service for my business, I just click on my “professional identity” and instantly RoboForm fills out the form.

How cool is that!  I can spend money faster than I can type!  OK, so I’m a consumer, I do my part for the economy!

How does it work?

Once downloaded RoboForm will be present on your navigation bar. It works with all browsers (that I know of).  You just click on the little green icon, a drop down box appears, you choose what you want to do and it gets done.

It’s the best 40-bucks I ever spent.  Over the course of years, I’ve saved enough time to take a vacation away from the computer.

So why do you need it now?  I wish I had it when I first started, it would have made my life so much easier.

Everyone needs more simplicity in life, begin by putting your passwords on Speed Dial!
